….so you get a blog post.
I always get retrospective this time of day, probably because I have nothing better to do than think (in comparison to the rest of the day when my brain is on autopilot) while I’m laying in bed, staring up at the ceiling. B starts his nights in his room, but usually ends up in our room at some point, curled into a little ball, wedged up as close as possible to E or me, but usually my armpit. It’s been that way since he was teeny tiny and I’ve grown pretty fond of his little curly head close to mine at night where I can breathe in that little boy smell that every so often reminds me of the newborn he once was. Of course, when he’s restless, it’s not so much fun and more so when my insomnia strikes, which seems to be a lot these days.
I’m a worrier by nature, so I think insomnia goes hand-in-hand with that. My doctor also thinks I have adrenal fatigue….hooray! Something else to worry about! 🙂 I do have a lot on my mind these days, though, and it seems the time of day my brain likes to kick it all around is between the hours of two to five AM. When I wasn’t a mama and could sleep until the wee hours of the afternoon, this was okay. Now….not so much. But I’m working on it with a dramatic decrease in sugar intake over the last few weeks (again – sigh), tea, and cutting back on screen time at night. The last of this list means I actually read two books with real pages last week! I used to consume books with abandon, even the early days of motherhood when it felt like all I did was breastfeed. But as B got older and more mobile, book time was relegated to audio books while I nursed him to sleep as the rest of my daylight free hours were spent on other things like staring mindlessly at the computer. I think I want to get back into this habit again.
My time lately has been here, reading the aforementioned books and dreaming about sewing projects, but also working on finally backing up this computer of mine. I have gigabytes on gigabytes of digital stuff that has been moved from one computer to another over the last….wow….seventeen years. I literally have backups of backups, which isn’t very space-efficient especially when the millions of photos I’ve taken over the years have gotten bigger and bigger with the advent of new cameras added to my collection (though I’ve been good in this area and haven’t gotten a new one since 2007!). I’ve been slowly going through the duplicates and it’s been kind of cathartic to look through old photos and writings.
So….that’s where I am. I did give myself a schedule to go with in posting here, but obviously that’s fallen by the wayside. I have such a little audience and get so little feedback, that I’m a little lost as to what you all are interested in reading, so here’s a post about nothing in particular.
You’re welcome. 🙂
