System Status: August 2013

26view

Can you believe it’s the last Monday of the month already? I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am for the fall. Every year is the same for me…..right around June 15th or so, I am very ready for changing leaves, cooler weather, football, new TV shows, and other things that come in September. Only a week left! I only hope nature also feels my excitement and decides to drop the mercury down to a crisper number as soon as the calendar flips.

In the end of August I am….

…reading Grace-Based Parenting. I normally have a hard time reading parenting books, but this one I’ve actually found to be refreshing as it’s not a system or a bunch of lists. It’s a way of thinking that is not only beneficial for kids, but I think can be healing for parents coming from punitive childhoods as well.

…watching The West Wing…..still. The storyline is good, but I think we’ve been watching it almost every night because there’s really nothing else to watch. None of the movies out right now appeal to us and TV shows that are available to us are about the same. Have I mentioned that I’m ready for fall yet?

…listening to the Nick Cave & Warren Ellis station on Pandora. I load this up while I’m making supper and it sets a calm mood, especially as sunset is getting earlier and earlier. I played this a lot when we went on our vacation to Alamosa last summer and it was perfect for the absolutely AMAZING view (seen above) that we had from our cabin.

…loving my MacBook Pro. Seriously. One of the best computer-related decisions I’ve ever made.

…eating a lot of ground beef and egg dishes. 😐 I have just been flat-out worn out this month….emotionally, physically, spiritually…..just worn out, so I’ve either been relying on extremely easy meals like taco salad or Spanish Omelet, or on a local service I just discovered called The Organic Dish. You order what you want, they get the ingredients together and chop for you, then they deliver it to your front door, and you throw it in a pan or the oven and there you have it. Less work for me is always a good thing. I guess it’s my lazy version of freezer meals as I haven’t managed to do any of those in months.

…looking forward to fall. Did I mention this yet? Because I am. 🙂

  1. Hey girl! I feel ya on September. The fall represents both the end and beginning … of what I’m not sure exactly. It just feels good when fall rolls in … and in Florida that change (seasonally anyway) is so subtle. I’m sorry you’ve been so blue. If I were anywhere near you, I’d insist a girl’s night out that involved karaoke to Salt-n-Pepa and greasy food at midnight.

    1. You’re sweet, Heidi. 🙂 I’d totally let you insist as that sounds awesome. I haven’t had a girl’s night out in a very, very long time.
