A Day in my Life…(20 March 2013).

There’s a Flick group called “a Day in the Life of…” The idea is to document four specific days of the year (the changing of the seasons) in photographs. Being the sucker for just about anything having to do with photography that I am, I usually try and participate. I’ve fallen off the bandwagon more in recent years, but you can see all of my past contributions here (and one on the blog here). It’s interesting for me to look back to see what my day has looked like at various points in my life. It’s actually a little amazing to me how much things have changed in just a few short years.

Here’s my most recent…last Wednesday, March 20th.

Up and at ’em. And the first ’em is B’s diaper. Powerful stuff.

I hop in the shower. This has become a very sacred time to me since falling into motherhood. I love my shower time.

After all the hot water is gone, I throw the diapers into the washing machine pre-rinse cycle. I wash them every other day or every two days depending on how many he goes through.

Then I clean out the diaper bin.

The cats are happy I’m finally getting around to feeding them.

Then I turn some music on for us to listen to while I make breakfast.

We start every day with eggs. Two for me, one for B.

While breakfast is cooking, the diapers finish the rinse cycle, so I start the wash cycle.

And take my apple cider vinegar drink. I don’t do this every day, but I try to most days.

I flip the eggs around and while they’re finishing, I put the Door-to-Door Organics box out.

Before breakfast every day, B and I read a little devotional and work on his memory verse for the month. I’m amazed at how quickly he memorizes verses. It’s cute. 🙂

Breakfast is eggs, avocado, bananas, our daily dose of fermented cod liver oil, and usually yogurt, but we’re all out. Then B has some frozen blueberries which take him no less than a half hour to eat.

While B is finishing his blueberries, I balance the checkbook.

And start to make yogurt. We pick up our raw milk on Tuesdays, so Wednesdays are usually yogurt-making days.

Once the raw milk is set up, I stick in the dehydrator and set the timer for 8 hours.

B is done with breakfast, so I get started on the dishes.

Including handwashing some.

By the time I’m done with that, the diapers are done in the washer, so I pull them out and throw some clothes in.

And get started on hanging the diapers to dry.

B helps. 🙂

I stick the rack outside so the diapers can hang in the sun. This helps remove stains.

Then B and I hop in the car to run some errands.

Our stop today is Hobby Lobby to pick up some items for a baby shower I’m helping to plan. Really, who doesn’t need GIGANTIC fake roses? I know I’ve always wanted some.

After I find what I need, we head home and I start lunch.

While lunch is steaming, B opens the Door-to-Door Organics box which was delivered while we were gone. I think this is a highlight of his week.

Lunch today is radishes (which, for some reason, B loves), steamed broccoli with lots of butter, and raw cheese.

After lunch it’s nap time for B.

While he naps, I do some virtual assistant work for a few hours on the computer.

B is up later and gets a snack of raisins and homemade kombucha.

Then we check on the diapers. B says they’re dry (though I do throw them in the dryer for a few minutes to soften them up).

While the diapers are rumbling around in the dryer, I fold the clothes washed earlier.

Then I sit down and do some sticker booking with B for a while.

The diapers are done, so we stack and assemble them as needed. B likes all the buttons on his overnight diapers.

E is home by now, so I get supper started.

Tonight we’re having salad with a dressing from my Irish cookbook, fried bell peppers, and spanish omelet.

After supper, E cleans up the kitchen. This is a nice little arrangement. 🙂

While he’s doing that, I fold more laundry and put clothes away.

E then puts together some ice cream and I monitor its progress while he gives B a bath and reads him stories. This is also a nice little time for me to relax.

E gets his relaxing time while I nurse B to sleep (theoretically…he doesn’t really fall asleep while nursing anymore). E also makes a chocolate shell for our ice cream.

After B is settled in, we get ice cream! Horrible picture but I was too lazy to get up and get my non-phone camera.

After relaxing a bit, I head to bed and read a few Taproot articles before calling it a day.
