Celebrating Advent: My Interview on The New Mason Jar Podcast

I remember very clearly standing in my family room several years ago while my very young children played outside in the backyard, and I folded laundry. It was the first time I “met” Cindy Rollins (though I’ve since met her without the quotes 😊). I’ve never been much of a podcast listener, but I was trying to expand my horizons at the time and wanted something I could find to entertain or even better myself while doing menial tasks – like folding laundry. Somewhere in my soon-to-be homeschooler wanderings online, I came across a recommendation for the podcast she was on at the time, and it was just what I needed. I loved everything she had to say about educating in a Charlotte Mason way, and I eagerly anticipated new episodes. Those recordings will always hold a special place in my heart for making Charlotte Mason feel more attainable and doable, and for helping me to see how beautiful it can be.

You can imagine my delight and tremendous honor when Cindy and her co-host, Dawn Duran (also a good friend of mine!), asked me to be a guest on The New Mason Jar Podcast to talk about Advent a few months ago. I could hardly say no. 🙂

We chatted all about Advent, including what it is, ways to celebrate it, and why a quiet holiday season is the best way to focus on what matters.

  1. Hi Rebecca! I loved your interview on the New Mason Jar. I always learn something new from you! Can you recommend any books or other resources for learning more about advent and/or the liturgical calendar in general? I am new to the concept. Cheers, Alli I

    1. Hi Alli! When I started exploring the liturgical year, I just kind of dove into the Book of Common Prayer and then also read articles on the internet about how to use it. But since then, I’ve found a few books I’d like to read to explore this practice more. I think the “Let Us Keep the Feast” books edited by Jessica Snell are a good summary of what it’s all about and include ideas on how to observe the feasts and seasons. “The Circle of Seasons” by Kimberlee Conway Ireton is another one I hope to read in the coming year. And a friend recommended “Around the Year with the Trapp Family,” which has more of a Catholic theme. I hope that helps!

  2. Excellent! Thank you! I will check these out…
