One of my favorite family traditions that we started when our son was very young was to include a book in his Easter basket every year. Tucked in with stuffed animals, wooden toys, and some treats, I always found a special book to commemorate that year. When our daughter joined the crew, we also included her in the tradition.

With the season of Lent beginning in just a few weeks on February 22nd, I thought I might share a book list this week with some of our favorite picture books for the Lent and Easter seasons.

These aren’t all necessarily specific to this time of year, but many of them are books that I either chose to buy or seriously considered for our Easter baskets. A few have been given to us as gifts that we absolutely love and would also make wonderful additions to your Easter baskets. I hope you and your family enjoy them as well!

As I’ve mentioned many times before, I love a good book list! So what books would you add to this list?

Thank you for this wonderful list! I just put several of these on reserve from my library. I would add He is Risen: Rocks tell the Story of Easter by Patti Rokus. Very simple but creatively done.

    1. Oh, that one looks interesting! I will have to get that from the library myself. 🙂 Thank you for the recommendation!

We love many of these books! I would add The Garden, The Curtain, and The Cross and The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden. They are a bit longer, but such good theology put into easily understood and remembered language.
