Education is a Life (New Quote Print to Celebrate the New Homeschool Year!)

Charlotte Mason’s six-volume series is full of quotable passages and wise tidbits on nearly every page. I have read through these books at least once, and a few of them more than once, and each time, new ideas and ways of thinking pop out from the pages, aiding in adjusting and fine-tuning not only my view of education but also the way in which I teach my children.
I have compared finding these sayings to coming across a gold nugget in a mountain stream. You’re panning along steadily, and suddenly, there it is, glinting on the page, and it takes a second look to really take in what you’ve found.
Even with all these wise sayings, however, her magnum opus quote, in my opinion, is this one:
Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.
This is really the idea that changed my view of education entirely. It made me see that education is not just a means to an end but is a continual process that never really does end. Education is not a task to be checked off but a way of living. Or, as she says it so well, education is a life.
This time of year generally marks the beginning of a new school year not only for students who climb aboard a yellow bus and ride together to a shared building but also for students who stay home and learn within the bounds of their families. Education as a life can be embraced in either form, but I think that if we genuinely want to embody what Ms. Mason is saying here, the home part of life really does have to play a significant role.
As a way to celebrate the new school year, this week, I’m offering a new printable with Charlotte Mason’s inspirational saying for my fellow home educators! You can find it in the shop here!
I hope everyone has a wonderful school year!
