The rules of bird attraction.
We put a birdfeeder out on our deck about a month ago, hoping that it would be a nice thing for B to watch while he’s trapped in doors. We fully expected the birds to come in droves to partake of the lovely shelter and delicious food we were offering up to them, but no such luck. I’d look out every so often but the food was never touched and we never saw any of them stop by for a visit. I consulted the internets for ideas on how to attract them and added a dish of water next to the feeder, but to no avail. They weren’t biting….literally.
Finally, finally, on Monday as I was opening the curtains, I saw the brief flap of wings as a house finch flew off in the direction of some nearby aspen trees and it’s been a smorgasbord ever since (I honestly don’t use that word that much….I’m not sure why it’s showing up on my blog). We now have four finches that have claimed our deck and I’ve refilled the dish once since yesterday. It’s fun. 🙂
