  1. Loved reading this! How old were your kids when you started them on year 1? My daughter is turning seven in October, and while I know she’s ready for me to read her chapter books (she listens to many of them via audiobook and listens to family read alouds), we have so much fun reading picture books and it’s hard to think of using up all our time on “older” books and missing out on delightful picture books while she’s still young. Thoughts?

    1. My son turned 7 in August just before he started Year 1 and my daughter was 6.5 when she started. AO Year 1 is really, really so gentle and I think from beginning to end when I was doing it with just my son only took us about 2 hours (that was with our Morning Time of about 45 minutes), so it still leaves you plenty of time to read picture books as well. 🙂 I think several of the books listed for AO Year 1 are also picture books (specifically the James Herriot book and all of the d’Aulaires), so it’s not all just chapter books. I hope that helps!

  2. I love reading your recaps; I’ve gotten many good tips from you over the last couple years! My son did Y2 this year, so we are just a little behind you.

We have loved Salsa too (although I didn’t use the extra activities). We need something new this year, and I’m looking at CM Simple Spanish. Have you seen that one?

  3. Hi, there!
I have a copy of the PDF of Wyoming’s teacher materials for Salsa. I can try to send it to you if you would like.
