YouTube Picture Study (and Art for Frame TVs!)
One of my hopes for this website and all of the things I do online is to encourage others in their homeschool journey, especially in finding ways to help families include picture study in their homeschool lesson time. I love being able to use my art history degree in this way by providing free printable picture study art, Picture Study Aids, and high-quality, professional art prints. I want to make art appreciation through Picture Study as easy as possible for everyone!
YouTube Picture Study Art Videos
Recently, I started working on two projects that I hope will make it even easier! On my YouTube channel, I’ve begun posting picture study art videos. These are different than the picture study video I posted back in 2020 with an overview of Vincent van Gogh’s “The Bedroom” in that there is no background information about the artist or the piece itself. These videos are designed to be picture study in its purest form. Each video includes:
- A short introduction to the “quiet looking time” portion of Charlotte Mason picture study.
- Three minutes of one art piece on the screen without sound or talking. This is just the full version of the art itself. I know that many of you look at art on your computer or TV for your picture study time, so I hoped by offering these videos, it might make the process of finding the art and pulling it up easier if it’s all in one place.
- A brief explanation of narration.
- Another explanation of the optional discussion time.
- Another three minutes of the art on the screen so you can discuss it.
I am slowly working on getting more artists up, but for now, I have Claude Monet, Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio, and Eugène Delacroix. These videos are free and can be viewed on any device where you can watch YouTube!
Frame TV Art
Last year, a fellow homeschool mom contacted me to see if I could make art files for her Frame TV that went along with the artists for the AmblesideOnline Artist Rotation. While I don’t offer anything for sale that matches the AO rotation exactly, I do offer the same artists, so I was glad to offer the files from the art that I’ve selected for my Picture Study Aids. I’m happy to announce that I’m making these files available to everyone, and they can be purchased on each artist page. Right now, I have them available for Jan van Eyck, the Yuan Dynasty, Tintoretto, Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio, and Eugène Delacroix. I plan to offer more in the future!
If there are any artists you’d like to see specifically for either of these new offerings, please let me know in the comments!
I was just searching for art to put on our frame TV that matched AOs rotation! Hallelujah. My request would be to offer the upcoming years artists from AO. Thank you for doing this!
I do have Albrecht Dürer, Caravaggio, and Eugène Delacroix, which are next year’s AO artists available now, though it is not the same art as the AO selections.
This is amazing! I’ve struggled to get corresponding art on our frame TV so this is a huge blessing!
I’m so glad it’s helpful!
Thank you so much for doing this! Super helpful! I will be sharing with my AO and CM homeschool groups. 🙂
